Phil Markel

Phil Markel, Danny Markel's father, had different roles at two points in the case history. During the 2019 joint trial, the State identified him as a potential witness who might authenticate voices on recorded phone calls, but released the Markel family from their subpoenas after the court declined at that time to exempt potential witnesses from sequestration. After the verdict in Donna Adelson's 2025 trial, he delivered a victim impact statement describing the harm he said Adelson's actions had caused his family and others. He asked the court to impose the maximum possible sentence and closed by directing a question to Adelson.
