Shelby Blank, a general surgeon, testified on Day 1 about Daniel Markel's condition when he arrived at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Blank said Markel was in extremely critical condition, with two penetrating injuries, swelling, bruising, and bleeding. She also addressed the resuscitation measures performed and testified that he was pronounced dead about 12 to 14 hours after admission, shortly after midnight on July 19.

She identified State's Exhibit 23 as a photograph showing Markel upon his arrival at the hospital. Neither defense cross-examined her.
