Thomas Balboni

Thomas Balboni, an investigator with the State Attorney's Office and a fingerprint-analysis expert, compared Garcia's known fingerprints with a thumbprint on a Uniform Florida Pawnbrokers Transaction Form bearing Garcia's name. He concluded that the print matched Garcia's right thumbprint, and his fingerprint form was admitted without objection. He also confirmed that the pawn form contained no fingerprints attributed to Magbanua and explained that his assignment did not extend to contacting the pawn shop, obtaining surveillance video, or searching for other forms involving Garcia or Rivera. In response to juror questions, he said Garcia's known prints were taken on June 18, 2019, and that an identifiable fingerprint can remain on paper indefinitely. During Magbanua's later retrial, defense questioning separately identified Balboni as an analyst who assisted with the Aucilla River gun investigation.
