Shoddrick Nobles

Shoddrick Nobles testified about two 2014 encounters involving Garcia and another man. He said he helped Garcia obtain cocaine at the Budget Inn, later assisted the men in obtaining a car part, and registered a Rodeway Inn room for them in his own name. He identified a photographed vehicle as the one involved in both encounters, and the Rodeway Inn record was admitted over Garcia's hearsay objection. Defense counsel questioned his account, drug activity, probation history, limited knowledge of an overheard reference to a woman and a car, and whether he received favorable treatment. Nobles said he did not know what the conversation meant or whether his testimony benefited him; on redirect, he explained that police contacted him about two years after the reported cocaine sale, when no cocaine remained for a charge, and the court later clarified that his record showed no adjudication of guilt. During Magbanua's retrial, Nobles was discussed rather than presented as a witness, when Rivera was cross-examined about buying drugs from him, his assistance involving the Prius, a hotel-room incident, and charges covered by Rivera's cooperation agreement.
